Agricultural biomethanation: producing biogas on the farm benefits everybody

Make the most of your fertilizer, feed the land and propel the energy transition.

Produce biogas on your farm with our turnkey service

Securing the ground

Proximity of producers, distance from inhabited areas, approaches with municipalities: we think of everything.

Management and financing

Development and investment: we ensure the success of the projects.

Digestate distribution

Return of organic matter for spreading, whose fertilizing properties have been enhanced by biomethanation.

Securing inputs

To secure the exclusively agricultural supply and the logistics of transporting organic materials.

Adapted plant design

Every aspect is optimized: plant design, choice of technologies, layout of facilities, etc.

Dealing with the community

From the design of your biogas project until after the start of production.

What is agricultural biomethanation?

A renewable source of energy, biomethanation is a organic residues treatment process that allows agricultural producers to diversify their sources of income by producing biogas on the farm.

Input collection

Slurry, manure, liquid manure and crop residues are transported to the biomethanation center.

Anaerobic digestion process

Contained to the bioreactor, oxygen-free fermentation of organic residues produces digestate and biogas.

Digestate recovery

The product of stabilization and mineralization of fermented organic matter, digestate (solid and liquid) is a preferred soil amendment.

Biogas valorization and purification

Biogas is processed to remove impurities so that it has the same properties as renewable natural gas (RNG).

Piped gas injection or conveyance

When close to a natural gas network, biomethane can be injected directly into it. Otherwise, it is transported by road to its destination.

Biogas on the farm:

an asset for green and profitable agriculture

Cost-effective reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs)
Local contribution to the production of renewable energy, taking advantage of your manure.
Stable and local supply
Constant fertilizing material intake from surrounding agricultural areas.
High-quality fertilizers
Better assimilation of nitrogen in fertilizing materials after biomethanization process.
Decrease in odors during spreading
Fertilizers returned to producers are less odorous than raw manure and slurry.
Transport considerations
Logistical management of fertilizing materials, sent to the pit network of your choice.
Savings on chemical fertilizer
Reduced expenditure on synthetic fertilizers thanks to the nutrients in the biomethanation digestate.

Agricultural biomethanation in action

In concrete terms, what forms can a collaboration with BioÉnertek take? Here is a telling example!

How does one start a biomethanation project?

Bring together the following elements:

  • Approximately 1 000 head of livestock (producing between 35 000 and 40 000 metric tons of manure or slurry)
  • A small group of farmers — from 2 to 6 producers
  • The desire – shared by us! – to develop eco-responsible practices

BioÉnertek: unique expertise in North America

Characterized by our human-scale approach, we develop state-of-the-art pipeline-free biogas projects.
